Vollrath Park Tree Planting

Categories: Parks & Forestry

Did you know that the City of Sheboygan’s urban forest provides approximately $3 Million in annual benefits? Here are some of the benefits that make up that value:

  • Healthier environment with cleaner air and waterways
  • Reduce summer cooling costs
  • Increase property values
  • Reduce stormwater runoff
  • Neighborhood crime reduction
  • Increase economic stability
  • Reduce noise pollution
  • Create wildlife and plant diversity

The City of Sheboygan has received a grant from Alliant Energy and Trees Forever to plant 50 trees on the east side of Vollrath Park. Not only will these trees contribute many of the benefits described above they will also be planted in the state’s oldest disc golf course. There will be a new disc golf hole that runs through the area where these trees are going and their placement will allow for a unique experience.

Sheboygan North High School’s Environmental Club has student volunteers that will assist City of Sheboygan’s Park and Forestry staff in planting these trees on Wednesday November 1st at 3pm. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.

Tree species being planted:

  • Tulip Tree
  • Black Cherry
  • Osage Orange
  • Dawn Redwood
  • Black Gum
  • Shagbark Hickory

The City of Sheboygan would like to thank Alliant Energy and Trees Forever for funding the tree purchase and also Sheboygan North High School for the student volunteers to assist in tree planting.
