City of Sheboygan Announces 2025 Asphalt Overlay Road Improvement Projects

The City of Sheboygan Department of Public Works has announced the proposed 2025 Asphalt Overlay Projects, aimed at improving road conditions and enhancing transportation infrastructure for residents and visitors. As part of these efforts, the projects will also include curb ramp reconstruction to enhance pedestrian accessibility and ensure compliance with accessibility standards. These improvements are scheduled for implementation in 2025 and will involve resurfacing various streets to provide smoother, safer travel for motorists and pedestrians alike.

Proposed Road Improvement Locations:

The following streets have been identified for asphalt overlay improvements as part of the Street Division’s 2025 maintenance efforts:

  • South 20th Street – Georgia Avenue to Indiana Avenue
  • Dillingham Avenue – South 8th Street to South 12th Street
  • South 7th Street – Mead Avenue to Union Avenue
  • North 16th Street – Superior Avenue to Saemann Avenue
  • Ontario Avenue – North 10th Street to North 12th Street
  • North 11th Street – Ontario Avenue to Erie Avenue
  • North 12th Street – Ontario Avenue to Erie Avenue
  • Division Avenue – North 15th Street to North 17th Street
  • Mehrtens Avenue – North 15th Street to Dead-End

Additionally, the Engineering Division will complete the following roadway projects identified in the 2025 Capital Improvements Program (CIP)

  • North 25th Street – Superior Avenue to North Avenue
  • South 18th Street – Washington Avenue to Mead Avenue
    • This is not an asphalt overlay project. This project will replace damaged concrete pavement.
  • Intersection Improvement – North Taylor Drive and Wilgus Avenue
    • Installation of new traffic signals and pavement repairs.

Project Goals & Community Impact

These improvements are part of the City’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing Sheboygan’s road infrastructure. The asphalt overlay process will provide smoother road surfaces, extend the longevity of the streets, and improve overall drivability for residents and visitors.

Construction Schedule & Traffic Considerations

Specific project timelines and construction schedules will be communicated as planning progresses. During construction, temporary traffic adjustments and detours may be necessary to ensure safety of both construction crews and the traveling public. The City will provide updates on expected impacts, timelines, and detour routes to minimize inconvenience.
